Senior English Ms. Feliks 3-21-18 Ghosts: Fact or Fiction? I have seen Ghostbusters 1 and 2, and that Pillsbury Doughboy doesn’t look fake to me! Ghosts are an apparition of a dead person that is believed to appear or become to manifest to the living, typically as a nebulous image. There are many reasons to not believe in such a far fetched thing such as ghosts, but personal experience and facts say otherwise. First of all, let's think logically. We breath, we live, we are conscious of our decisions. Humans have feelings and we live to the age of around 90. Why in the world, after all that time of the earth, having consciousness and having feelings would we just lose it all after we die. Don’t you think we would go somewhere? Or would it just be a dark pit of nothingness. 90 years gone to waste and nothing after that? Would we be reborn? Would we ever have any recollection of what the hell happened in our past lifetime? Or would we live on in the same world, just an another form of our soul; otherwise known as ghosts. Ghosts have been portrayed to exist for many many years. Even some pieces of the Bible talk about ghost stories. And a recent poll in 2013 concluded that 43% of americans believe in ghosts, according to LiveScience.com. It seems like nowadays, if you ask anyone, they have some sort of spooky ghost story. They’ve become so common that it’s hard not to believe in them. It isn’t like Santa or the tooth fairy. Ghosts are said to be what we become in another dimension after our bodies expire in the present time. Ghosts, scary or not, make sense in the fact that it is what we become or what we are after death. Whatever your religion or beliefs are, it would only make sense that our inner thoughts and consciousness go somewhere after our physical form retires. Electromagnetic fields are something that can help a ghost communicate with our present living environment. Electromagnetic fields are scientifically proven and are actually a real thing. With enough of this energy, it could help a ghost go from one realm to another to help communicate with the living. A canadian neuroscientist, Michael Persinger did a study on this. Mentalfloss.com says, “Persinger has studied people in his lab wearing a so-called “God Helmet,” finding that certain patterns of weak magnetic fields over someone’s head for 15 to 30 minutes can create the perception that there’s an invisible presence in the room.” this goes to show that the electromagnetics can make it feel like there is someone with you. If a ghost were to understand this enough, and be able to harness this power, they could switch over to our realm and communicate with us; therefore we would be able to speak with, or even maybe see the outlines or orbs of the ghosts that connect with us. Infrasound also can be connected to the credibility of ghosts. Infrasound is sounds so low, that humans can’t hear it. Mentalfloss also says, “Scientists studying the effects of wind turbines and traffic noise near residences have found that low-frequency noise can cause disorientation, feelings of panic, changes in heart rate and blood pressure, and other effects that could easily be associated with being visited by a ghost.” Whenever you hear of ghost stories or actually experience one yourself, you seem to be able to ‘feel’ the presence of this anomaly or sense that there is someone else with you at the moment that a ghost would try to make contact with you. Maybe a sense of cold, or discomfort where you feel you are not alone, which you probably aren't. Another form a ghost might take is the form of an orb, although it’s not really a form they take at all. An orb is a ball of light or energy that we will usually see through flash photography or sometimes with our own eyes if it harnesses enough energy. What an orb is, is when a ghost tries to get enough energy to try to communicate with the living by taking energy away from you, or another objects, we will see them as flashes of lights. A ghost might not try to show up as an orb, but once it gets enough energy to manifest, it will just show up as a flash of light or a ball of light. Theshadowlands.com says, “One of the leading theories concerning what orbs are and the one that I lean towards the most is that they are not the spirit at all. The orb is the energy being transferred from a source (i.e. powerlines, heat energy, batteries, people, etc) to the spirit so they can manifest. This may not even be a conscious thing the spirit is doing, just a natural way they get their energy. This would explain why the orbs are round balls. According to the laws of Physics energy being transferring like that would assume is natural shape of a sphere. This theory can also be tied into the EMF readings we get during spirit activity.” So they take energy away from things with electricity or electric currents, which could even be a human being. This is why during most ghost hunts, the hunters feel drained of energy after contact with a spirit. Or why sometimes their tools like cameras and sensors lose connection during contact, because the ghost needs energy from a separate object to be able to make contact. Ghosts, whether you believe it or not, are a scientifically proven thing. In my opinion, it is where we stay or get stuck before we transfer to heaven or hell. Which is why we come into contact with good and bad ghosts. I'm sure a lot of people have weird stories that they cannot explain. Some may be explainable if you chose to push away the thought of you being visited by someone or something that has passed over to a different dimension, but others will chose to embrace it and accept the fact that our world is inhabited by those alive and dead. The choice is yours. But as they say in ghostbusters, don’t cross the streams. sources: Radford, Benjamin. "Are Ghost Real? - Evidence Has Not Materialized." For many years, men have been who rules this country. Men have been historically known to be the head of the household and they have also been the ones to have better jobs. It’s just how it is. Men have ran this country since 1776 and just recently, things are starting to change. Men have always, “ran the show,” but now women are making a come up. With this uprising of women, it really opens the eyes to many that there are a lot of effects of being a man.
We cannot voice our opinion about feminism. Plain and simple, we cannot voice our opinion on this topic. The second we try to say that the wage gap is a lie, or women have the same rights men have, we immediately get bashed. We get to ‘respectfully’ receive being called pigs, misogynistic, and sexist, for simply voicing our opinion just like women do. I mean after all, aren’t we all equal? On the flip side, we cannot even fathom the thought of meninist being a thing, because if we do, we are just making fun of women and acting like their rights are a joke. In a court case for rape, you’re better off shutting your mouth and taking your sentence, rather than trying to tell what really happened. In the world we live in today, if a woman calls out a man for rape, he is done. No if’s, and’s or buts about it. He is done. You’re pretty much screwed for life because you’re not getting out of this one, whether you did it or not. It is sickening that a women can basically destroy a man's life by lying about being raped or sexually abused. If a man were to say a girl raped him, it would be taken as such a joke, and everyone would call the man a bitch for crying rape. Yet, when a women calls rape, say goodbye to your life. You are never right. Guys, hate to break it to you, but in a relationship you are never right. My father taught me this at a young age, that it’s better to let them have their way and think they’re right. Because in the end, if your women is happy, you’ll be happy. He also taught me that it’s better to ask for forgiveness, rather than permission, but that is beside the point. An example would be if you know for sure a movie starts at 10:00, but the old lady says is starts at 11:00, and would cause World War 3 over it, just let her be right. Be an hour late to the movie just to prove your point. Don’t fight back. You cannot and will not ever get away with hitting a girl, period. It doesn’t matter if she is mad, and beating the living shit out of you, you can not fight back. This is something we have all been taught from childhood, that you can’t hit a girl. But what about equality right? I mean, if all girls want to be as equal as men, can’t they take a punch? No. The second you lay your hand on a girl, all hell breaks loose. You either get swarmed by bystanding men, or you go to jail. Either one, you’re basically screwed. Don’t get me wrong, I fully agree with this one. I would never hit a girl, but if they want to be equal shouldn’t they be able to fight back? We have to be tough. This isn’t that bad. Some boys are born tough, some have been taught to be tough, and some just have to fake it. In today’s society it is frowned upon if a man doesn’t come off as tough or masculine. Boys don’t cry, boys don’t have feelings, we’re supposed to swallow our pride to make it seem like we have a pair. Newsflash, we do have feelings, we do cry… every now and then, and we do care about a lot more things than you’d think. Guys have a hard time showing emotion most of the time, like in my case. I choose to hold in my feelings rather than let the world know my issues. I know, I know, this isn’t the best thing to do, but it’s how I deal with my feelings. It is upsetting that a guy can’t show his emotions or have a reasonable conversation with one of his guy friends without getting criticized for sharing his feelings. God forbid we have emotions. It tough to be a guy sometimes. I know girls have a lot of stuff that sucks too. But it’s not easy to be a guy either. We can’t always be right, sometimes we need to just shut our mouths and take being wrong for the benefit of ourselves. Being a man means that you don’t always have to be tough, even though it is expected of you. Being a man in my opinion mean that you should try to provide for not only yourself, but your family also. Even though women want to be able to provide also (which they should), in my opinion, a man should be the ones to provide. Being a man means that there is a point in life where you really need to grow up and ‘be’ a man. You can be born a man, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you ‘are’ a man. You need to be mature enough to put others first, smart enough to recognize your surroundings, and caring strong enough to support those in need. That is effect of being a man. Perseverance is steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. This is something that I have learned to do the hard way in life, and something that has helped me benefit to mature and be a better person. Perseverance is something you are not taught, but rather a trait that you must adapt to and overcome to do better in life.
I have had to persevere a lot within the past year, but a moment that sticks in my mind very vividly is during football season. About three games in I was off to a great start to the season, well over 150 yards, had a couple touchdowns, then it all went downhill. Maple valley, down 2 scores, wide open pass… dopeed it. Now, you would think that I would shake it off, move past it and go get the next one. I thought my teammates would help build me up and help me to regain my self confidence, but I found that being the farthest from the truth. I expected the other team to talk crap and give me a hard time, but I didn't expect it from my own team. I thought maybe it’ll only last a few days then they’ll get over it. It lasted all season, they never dropped it, but I did iconically (lol). This destroyed my confidence, destroyed my whole senior year for football. I'm not usually the type to let that stuff bother me, i'm the type to shake it off and move past it, but it makes it hard to move forward when everyone is so infatuated in making you feel like shit, when you are better than them, and they find a seam to tear you apart. Coming into the season I had 3 offers, I stand today with now 5 offers to play college football. My self confidence on the field will never be the same and I will not continue my football career after high school now. I may sound like I am blowing this high school hazing out of proportion, but I wish you could have been in my shoes during the season, the sleepless nights, watching my mother cry because she knew I would not be the same player after my self confidence was destroyed. My mother read a quote to me, it said, “ships do not sink because of the water around them, but because of the water that gets inside of them.” this hit home because that was exactly what I did. I let the comments get to me and I sunk. I had to continue to persevere through this and continue my season. I couldn’t just up and quit, that's not type type of person I am. The way I persevered was waiting until after football season, after it all blew over and made myself the best person I could be, internally. I started doing things that make me happy, and not worrying about what anyone else says. Working out, getting a job, making myself happy and not caring about what anyone else thought. I dropped people that didn’t have the same work ethic and people that continue to drag me down at high moments. Now I walk the halls and realize that football doesn’t matter anymore, all it will be is glory days and faded memories. I'm glad it happened, but happier that it’s over. Now that I have endured having to push through and go through some serious perseverance, i’ve learned that the only person that I need to push through things and make myself happy is myself. Now that i have decided I won’t play college football, I have decided on another carrier path that will benefit my life much more and make me much happier in the end. It will give my future kids a good life and give them a stable life to live in. I have chose to be an electrician, which is something i’ve always wanted to do and it will benefit me more than I could ever imagined, by persevering through the tough times. Now that I am done and over with all this, I will be a much happier and a better person with more potential to do things that make me happy. |
