Refelction
This year in English 11 we did a lot of reading and writing. We read nonfiction, fiction, and we read a play called, “The Crucible,” as well. Major setbacks for me this year was reading because I read slow and it takes me a while to comprehend the book or play. Accomplishments this year would be my writing because, even though my grades didn’t always show it, I was proud of my writing and I thought I did a good job with them. This year in English I learned a lot about how to write at a college level and a lot about English for the SAT. For next year I will have to work on my reading skills because that is something I have been lacking lately and I need to work on it before college.
Reading
This year in English we read books on our own and as a class. Myself, I read “Hoops,” “Divided We Fall,” and “The Last American Man.” As a class we read “The Crucible,” which was a novel or play about the Salem witch trials. As a reader I learned that books are a lot more interesting if you actually take the time to comprehend them and try to understand them.
Writing
This year we did some different writing things. Ms. Martell taught us the proper way to write with a rhetorical precis. We also wrote a problem solution essay which we talked about something we didn't know how to do, which in my case I chose how to start a business. We also wrote text analysis’ about the books we read and our responses to them. I felt like one of my strengths this year was my writing and how I could always find a way to write my paper even if the topic wasn't that exciting. Something I struggled with was the grammar part. It was hard to add all the grammar things we learned from No Red Ink into my papers.
